Research themes: medieval history and the theories, methodologies, strategies and procedures for the teaching of history and heritage, with particular reference to education for active citizenship.
The field of medieval studies are divided into two main areas: one related to research on the subject of pilgrimages in the Euro-Mediterranean area; one regarding the development of norms enacted in the various Italian political and territorial during the Middle Ages; and the detection of toponyms and microtoponims of the city and the territory of Bologna.

The areas of investigation described above are also used in didactic keys.

The research has also addressed to the issue of education for active citizenship, especially in the initial training of primary school teachers, through participation in the European research project:
