Alessandra De Cesare è Professoressa associata presso il DIMEVET, fa parte del gruppo di esperti del panel Biological Hazards dell'Autorità Europea per la Sicurezza Alimentare (EFSA) ed è vice-editor in chief della rivista Italian Journal of Food Safety.
Le sue principali attività di ricerca riguardano l’analisi metagenomica degli alimenti; la valutazione e definizione di criteri di sicurezza alimentare basati sull'analisi del rischio; la caratterizzazione genotipica dei batteri tossinfettivi di origine alimentare.
