Alessandra De Cesare is Associate Professor in Inspection of foods of animal origin at Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences, is part of the group of experts of the panel on Biological Hazards of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and is vice-editor in chief of the Italian Journal of Food Safety.
Her main research topics concern the study of microbiomes circulating in food systems to prevent the colonization by pathogens; the evaluation and definition of food safety criteria based on risk assessment; genotypic and phenotypic characterisation of bacteria foodborne pathogens.
The main research projects in which she is and have been involved are: H2020 CIRCLES "Controlling microbiomes circulations for better food systems”; H2020 NEXTFOOD “Educating the next generation of professionals in the agrifood system”; PRIMA ArtiSaneFood “Innovative Bio-interventions and Risk Modelling Approaches for Ensuring Microbial Safety and Quality of Mediterranean Artisanal Fermented Foods”; H2020 VEO "Versatile emerging infectious disease observatory".
