Alessandra De Cesare is Associate Professor at DIMEVET.

Her main research topics concern shotgun metagenomic sequencing of food matrices to investigate status and changes in taxonomic composition and functional genes; evaluation and definition of new food safety criteria; genotypic and phenotypic characterisation of foodborne pathogens to trace back their origins and transmission routes; definition of foodborne pathogen control strategies from farm to fork.

The main research projects in which she is currently involved are H2020 818290 CIRCLES (2018-2023) "Controlling microbiomes circulations for better food systems”; H2020 771738 NEXTFOOD (2018-2022) “Educating the next generation of professionals in the agrifood system”; H2020 643476 COMPARE (2015-2020) “Collaborative Management Platform for the detection and Analyses of (Re-) emerging and foodborne outbreaks in Europe”.

Alessandra De Cesare is part of the group of experts of the panel on Biological Hazards of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
