Short Bio

Alessandra De Cesare is Associate Professor at DIMEVET, is part of the group of experts of the panel on Biological Hazards of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and is vice-editor in chief of the Italian Journal of Food Safety.

Her main research topics concern shotgun metagenomic sequencing of food; evaluation and definition of new food safety criteria based on risk assessment; genotypic and phenotypic characterisation of bacteria foodborne pathogens.

The main research projects in which she is currently involved are H2020 CIRCLES "Controlling microbiomes circulations for better food systems”; H2020 NEXTFOOD “Educating the next generation of professionals in the agrifood system”; PRIMA ArtiSaneFood “Innovative Bio-interventions and Risk Modelling Approaches for Ensuring Microbial Safety and Quality of Mediterranean Artisanal Fermented Foods”; H2020 NextGenProteins “Bioconversion of Unserutilized Resources into Next Generation proteins for Food and Feed”; H2020 VEO "Versatile emerging infectious disease observatory".
