Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2024, carries out its research in the field of veterinary medicine. Currently, his research activity focuses on the infectious pathogens of companion animals and in the interface between wild and domestic animals. In particular, his research activity is aimed to the study of infectious pathogens with difficult diagnosis and zoonotic potential and on the molecular epidemiology of viral and bacterial diseases of companion animals.

UNIVERSITARY DEGREES

2008: Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bologna.

2012: Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology and Control of Zoonoses of the University of Bologna, following the public defense of the thesis “RNA and DNA viruses: role of cross-species transmission in the viral evolution”.

ACADEMIC CAREER

April 2021 – March 2024. Senior assistant professor (fixed-term) at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences DIMEVET, University of Bologna: Infectious pathogens of companion animals with complex diagnosis.

November 2016 - March 2021. Junior assistant professor (fixed-term) at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences DIMEVET, University of Bologna: Molecular epidemiology of viral diseases in companion animals.

January 2015 - July 2016. Research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences DIMEVET, University of Bologna: study of viral persistence mechanisms of feline and canine parvovirus (FPV and CPV-2).

January 2013 - December 2014. Research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences DIMEVET, University of Bologna: preparation of innovative diagnostic kits for canine and feline parvovirus and respiratory viral diseases of the cat, within the project “Point of Care Diagnostics for rapid and cheap pathogen detection of companion animals (POC4PETS)” funded by the European Union in the 7th Framework Program for research and technological development (FP7) - Research for the benefit of specific groups SMEs.

January 2012 - December 2012. Research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences DIMEVET, University of Bologna: study on the presence of canine adenovirus type 1 (CAdV-1) in domestic and wild canids, a potential re-emerging virus.

July 2008 - December 2008. Research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Animal Pathology DSPVPA, University of Bologna: genetic characterization of BVDV isolates by sequencing and single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis.
