The research interests of Stella Volturo are mainly related to two thematic axes.

1 – Social policies – Contemporary societies, interested by relevant socio-economic changes, the analysis of social needs of the population, which are more and more differentiated and complex, and the implemented policies to cope with them appear necessary. In this scenario, the theoretical and empirical focus is addressed to the analysis of different areas of needs and policies, such as childcare, poverty policies, work-life balance policies and working conditions.

2 – Social mediation – Recently the topics of urban coexistence and social tie in urban space have captured the attention of the public debate and policy-makers, which is also due to the increase of insecurity’s perception by citizens. The analysis of the mediation, of its rhetoric and its advantages, is a relevant framework for theoretical and empirical research, where we refer to a specific methodology of social intervention to promote sociality in the urban context (as a strategy of prevention of insecurity and conflicts) and to manage conflicts, if they are already emerged.
