Some General and past Research
Stefania Pellegrini graduated at the University of Bologna with
a degree in Law (Sociology of Law) on the 19th June 1990; title of
the thesis: The sociological problem of litigation;
supervisor: Prof. Vincenzo Ferrari.
She has completed her PhD in Sociology of Law in Milan on the
27th October 1995. Title of the thesis: Sociological Analysis of
Litigation in Italy; supervisor: Prof. Vincenzo Ferrari.
She has became researcher at the Faculty of Law
(University of Bologna) in October 2002.
She was awarded of Associate professorship in Sociology of Law
at the Faculty of Law (University of Bologna) in January
2004.
She has dedicated most of her scientific activity to an
empirical analysis of litigation in Italy. Studying the civil trial
during 90 years she has individualized the major variables that
have influenced the trend of litigation. This study updates the
study on litigation that in Italy was stopped at the '70 and
gives a detailed analysis of civil justice in Italy
In the last years she has extended her scientific interest to
the informal justice with a particular attention to the
mediation and conciliation which must be considered not only
as a satisfaction of a natural need of modern society: to
have two types of disputes treatment, the first dedicated to
the unmediated conflicts where the Third must imposed his decision
to solve the dispute, on the contrary, the second is devoted
to the conflict between persons who will maintain their relation
also after the disputes and for this reason it is important not to
embitter the situation, but try to restore the precedent harmony
bringing the parts to a natural resolution of the conflict.
Thank to these researches on civil justice Stefania Pellegrini
is considered, also in foreign countries, one of expert of the
sociological analysis of litigation.
A new area of interest in wich Stefania Pellegrini has
dimostrated a deep knowledge is the study of Mafia as a social
fenomenon. Since 2005 he organized seminars about this topic. In
the 2009 this seminar has became a sperimental teach, the
first one of the Coutry.
An other area of interest of Stefania Pellegrini is the
sociology of family, and above all the analysis of the conjugal
conflict and all that follows it, professional etich, mafia and
antimafia.
