Education

I got a Philosophy MA at the University of Bologna (2005) and then I earned two PhDs: the first one in Philosophical Disciplines at the University of Pisa (2009); the second one in History of Science at Harvard University (2017).

Scientific activities

From 09/2019 to 09/2022 I have been Assistant Professor at the department of Philosophy and Communication Studies. On June 9, 2023, I obtained the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale for Full Professorship in History of Science and Technology.

I have been Curatorial Fellow at the Harvard Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments (2013-14), and fellow at Villa I Tatti-Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies (Florence, 2014) and at the Council On Library and Information Resources (Washington DC, 2014-15). I have been Research Fellow atKing’s College London (2017-19), and Senior Fellow at the Medici Archive Project (Florence, 2014-18). I collaborated with the Galileo Correspondence Project (2016) and I coordinated two international research groups: the Early Sciences Working Group (2012-2016) at Harvard University, and the Renaissance Skin Reading Group at King’s College London (2017-19).

Teaching experience

Between 2013 and 2016 I was Teaching Fellow at the History of Science department at Harvard, where I taught history of dietetics, history of magic and medicine in the Renaissance, history of epidemics, and history of science from the scientific revolution to the present. I taught early modern sensory history at King’s College London, and I have been guest lecturer on the history of anatomy and the history f the scientific revolution in several universities.

Editorial work and scientific memberships

Since 2015 I am in the executive board of Mefisto (formerly Medicina&Storia); In the years 2017-2020 I have been Book Review Editor of Nuncius: Journal of the Material and Visual History of Science. Since 2021 I am a member of the editorial board of Nuncius: Journal of the Material and Visual History of Science.

I am a member of: History of Science Society; Renaissance Society of America; Società Italiana di Storia della Scienza; Society for the History of Technology; BIOM-Società Italiana di storia, filosofia e studi sociali della biologia e della medicina.

Prizes

In 2014 I co-curated the exhibition Body of Knowledge: A History of Anatomy (in three parts) at the Harvard Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, which won the British Society for the History of Science Great Exhibitions prize in the category of 'Small Exhibitions'.
