Short Bio

I have been a student at Bologna and King's College London. I have carried out research at Chapel Hill (NC), Birkbeck College (London), Verona, Edinburgh. I have taught Greek History in Trieste (Adj. Professor) and Bologna-Ravenna (teaching assistant). Currently, I am Adjunct Professor in Greek History in Ravenna (Bologna) and Research Fellow ERC in Edinburgh (School of History, Classics and Archaeology).

My research focuses on Greek history of the Classical period, ancient historiography, and the reception of the idea of antiquity in relation to the cultural heritage. I am especially interested in the relationships between Athens and Sparta before the Peloponnesian war, Athenian domestic politics, Greek political history and institutions, and the themes of democracy and oligarchy. I have also studied from a historical perspective some of the architectural cultural heritage of Ravenna, the digital tools for the study of antiquity, and the (ab)use of Greek antiquity in 20th- and 21st-century media.
