My research focuses on Greek history of the Classical period, ancient historiography, and the reception of the idea of antiquity in relation to the cultural heritage. I am especially interested in the relationships between Athens and Sparta before the Peloponnesian war, Athenian domestic politics, Greek political history and institutions, and the themes of democracy and oligarchy. I have also studied from a historical perspective some of the architectural cultural heritage of Ravenna, the digital tools for the study of antiquity, and the (ab)use of Greek antiquity in 20th- and 21st-century media.
