Scientific and research activity

The scientific activity focuses on clinical psychology and developmental psychopathology, with particular attention to trait Emotional Intelligence, emotion regulation, psychological well-being, and the risk and protective factors associated with psychosocial distress. Research mainly concerns children, adolescents, and adults within educational, family, social, and clinical contexts.

A major research area investigates trait Emotional Intelligence as a protective factor for mental health, social adjustment, and quality of life. Recent international projects have examined Emotional Intelligence in childhood and adulthood, self-regulation and well-being in adolescents and adults, and the development of emotional and creative competencies through the EMOCREA programme. These projects have involved collaborations with Universidad de La Laguna, Saarland University, University College London, and Imperial College London.

Research activity also includes participation in national and international interdisciplinary projects on school dropout and educational guidance, parental burnout, creativity and digital learning technologies, executive functions, classroom integration, healthcare professionals’ burnout, and the psychological consequences of the COVID-19 emergency. Previous studies have addressed educational robotics, teacher burnout, eating disorders, obesity, and emotional regulation.

Since 2016, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of CESAF, the University of Bologna Centre for research and advanced training on psychosocial distress and addictions. Since 2022, he has served as academic representative for the regional programme “Health-Promoting Schools”, collaborating with the Bologna Local Health Authority on research, training, and health-promotion initiatives for school communities.

His scientific activity also includes the organisation of conferences and public engagement events, the coordination of special issues on Emotional Intelligence and mental health, membership of international editorial boards, and regular peer-review activity for national and international journals in clinical, developmental, and health psychology.
