Fabio Tosi received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Bologna in 2014 and his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering (summa cum laude) from the same institution in 2017. In 2021, he obtained his PhD in Computer Engineering with the highest grade (5.0/5.0). His doctoral thesis was recognized as the Best PhD Thesis by the Italian Association for Research in Computer Vision (CVPL Award 2022). During his PhD, he was a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen (Germany), collaborating with the Autonomous Vision group.

He is currently a Senior Assistant Professor (RTDA) in the scientific-disciplinary sector ING-INF/05 – Information Processing Systems – at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI) of the University of Bologna. In 2023, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor for the 09/H1 sector – Information Processing Systems.

His research focuses on the development of advanced methods for 3D reconstruction from images, with a particular emphasis on depth estimation from stereo and monocular images, the management of complex scenarios characterized by reflective and transparent surfaces, and, more recently, neural scene representations, 3D Gaussian Splatting, and Visual SLAM systems.

He serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Pattern Recognition (Elsevier) and is an Area Chair for major international computer vision conferences, including CVPR 2026, ECCV 2026, and ACCV 2026.

His scientific activity has led to the publication of over 80 peer-reviewed papers, primarily in top-tier international venues such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, TPAMI, and IJCV. His contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Best PhD Thesis Award (CVPL 2022), the Best Paper Honorable Mention (3DV 2021), and the Best Poster Award (BMVC 2024).

He has been repeatedly honored as an Outstanding Reviewer and, more recently, as an Outstanding Area Chair at leading international computer vision conferences. He actively contributes to the scientific community through the organization of workshops and tutorials.

He has secured competitive research funding as a Principal Investigator, is a co-inventor of five patents in the field of depth estimation, and maintains steady collaborations with universities, research centers, and prominent international industrial partners.
