Curriculum vitae

Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2014, she carries out her research in Plant Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany. Her research subjects are the following: analysis of secondary metabolites in plants and derived products of food and pharmaceutical interest; use of plant extracts as plant biostimulants; study of the biological activities exerted by plants used in Traditional Medicines; biotechnological production of active ingredients from cell and plant tissue cultures; evaluation of the response of plants to various types of abiotic stress.

Education

Graduated in Biological Sciences in 1989 at the University of Bologna, she obtained the following year a two-month grant from the National Research Council to carry out research at the Academic Institute of Plant Physiology "M. Popov", of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia (Bulgaria), within a Scientific cooperation agreement between the CNR and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

In 1994 she obtained her PhD in Cellular Biology and Physiology, discussing a thesis entitled: "Regulation of polyamine uptake at cellular level and their translocation in plants" . During her Research Doctorate she won a scholarship in the Vigoni Program (Joint Program between the Permanent Conference of the Rectors of Italian Universities and Deutscher Academischer Austauschdienst) to carry out researches at the Botanical Institute of the University of Bayreuth (Germany).

From 1995 to 1997 she holds a Post-Doctorate scholarship from the University of Bologna.

FRom March, 1997 to October 1998 she was a Post-Doctorate Fellow for the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and she carried out her research at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Chiba (Japan).

From 1999 to 2003 she holded two research grants at the University of Bologna.

In 2021, she returned to the University of Bayreuth (Germany) as a Fellow of the Vigoni Program (Joint Program between the Permanent Conference of the Rectors of Italian Universities and Deutscher Academischer Austauschdienst) and she did research for two months.

Academic career

After a few years as a Contract Professor, in 2006 she became Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Biology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Bologna University, at the Department of Experimental and Evolutionary Biology. In 2009 she was confirmed as Assistant Professor. From October 1st, 2012 she is a member of the Department for Life Quality Studies at the Rimini Campus of Bologna University. Since September 2014 she is Associate Professor in this Department.

Teaching activities

Since 2003 she has been teaching as a holder of the courses of Plant Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany for the First Cycle Course of Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences and for the Second Cycle Degree in Pharmacy.

Since the Academic Year 2022/2023 she has been teaching "Piante e Nutrizione" for the Master Course in "Human Nutrition, Health and Well-being " at the Rimini Campus.

Since 2014 she has been teaching in the Professional Master Program "Nutraceuticals, Phytotherapics and Food supplements" of the University of Bologna.
