Elisa Conticelli is Associate Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Bologna since 2024. Previously, she held positions as a research fellow and later as a fixed-term researcher. She obtained her PhD in 2011 from the University of Brescia.
Since 2007, she has continuously carried out research in the field of urban and territorial planning, focusing on environmental sustainability, urban and rural regeneration, sustainable mobility, green infrastructure, and ecosystem services, with particular attention to their impacts on health and well-being.
Her work is is carried outinto a strong international framework, with participation in numerous European projects in which she has progressively taken on roles of responsibility. Among these, notable projects include Art of Darkness (Horizon Europe), where she serves as scientific lead of a research unit; ENLIGHTENme (Horizon 2020), in which she acted as risk manager; and several other projects in which she is a member of the research team, such as Smart Pedestrian Net (JPI Urban Europe), RURITAGE (Horizon 2020), and MATCH-UP (Interreg Europe). She has also held direct responsibility roles in research and consultancy activities, such as within the European Partnership Sustainable Use of Land and Nature-Based Solutions under the Urban Agenda for the EU.
At the national level, she is the scientific lead of research units in strategic projects such as LINUS – Living the University City (PRIN PNRR 2022) and GRINS – Growing Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable (PNRR), and she is also co-principal investigator in the project DEMOS – Sustainable Democracy and Mobility.
Her role in consultancy activities is also particularly significant, as she serves as scientific coordinator in numerous collaborations with local authorities, including the Emilia-Romagna Region and several municipalities (Castelfranco Emilia, Casalecchio di Reno, Ravenna), aimed at developing tools for sustainable planning, environmental assessment, and green infrastructure management.
Her scientific output is extensive and continuous, including books, articles in international journals, and contributions to edited volumes and conference proceedings, with a total of more than 100 publications.
Alongside research and teaching, Elisa Conticelli is actively involved in institutional activities. At the University of Bologna, she is member of the Research Evaluation Committee (VRA) and, since 2026, Chair of the panel for Area 08A. She also is contact person for international research networks such as the Urban Europe Research Alliance and for strategic programs related to environment and health.
Since 2025 she has been Vice Coordinator of the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture-Engineering and the Master’s degree in Building Engineering-Architecture.
She is also member of the SIU Representatives Council, Regional Secretary of the Italian National Institute of Urban Planning, and member of national and international bodies, contributing significantly to the connection between academia, research, and territorial policies.
