Education
Claudio Fiegna received the Laurea Degree in Electronics
Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy.
Professional and academic activity
From July 1992 to July 1993 he worked at the "ULSI Research
Laboratories", Toshiba Corporation, Kawasaki, Japan in the frame of
a cooperation between Toshiba and the University of Bologna.
This work was a feasibility study about the possible technological
options for sub0.1 micron CMOS technologies and lead to the
fabrication of prototype Nchannel transistors with 40 nm gate
length, the shortest MOSFET at that time.
From 1994 to 1999 he was Research Associate and from 1999 to
2004 he was Associate Professor with the University of Ferrara,
Italy.
He is currently full professor of Electronics at the School of
Engineering of the University of Bologna, Italy.
From November 2008 to Decembre 2014 he was the coordinator of
the PhD course "Information Technologies" hosted by the ARCES
research center of the University of Bologna.
From November 2010 to March 2015 he was director of the Advanced
Research Center on Electronic Systems for Information and
Communication Technologies E. De Castro(ARCES)
From November 2015 to May 2017 he was coordinator of the bachelor course Ingegneria Elettronica per l'energia e l'informazione and the master course Ingegneria Elettronica e delle Telecomunicazioni per l'energia.
Scientific interests
His main scientific interests are about numerical device
simulation and its application to the analysis of advanced MOS
device structures and silicon-based photovoltaic cells.
In 1997 and 1998 he was member of the "Modeling and Simulation"
technical committee of "International Electron Devices
Meeting".
He is currently member of the program committee of the ULIS
(Ultimate Scaling of Silicon) international conference.
He served in the committees for the Educational Award and Brunetti Award of the
Electron Device Society of IEEE.
Claudio Fiegna is member of the "Centro di Ricerca sui Sistemi
Elettronici per l'Ingegneria dell'Informazione e le
Telecomunicazioni Ercole de Castro", Università of Bologna (ARCES)
and of the "Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per la
Nanoelettronica" (IU.NET).
He has been coordinator of a research unit in the frame of the PRIN
2000, PRIN 2002, PRIN 2004 an PRIN 2006 national research programs;
he is and has been involved into several European research
projects: NESTOR (Vth F.P.), network of excellence SINANO (VIth
F.P.), PULLNANO I.P (VIth F.P), network of excellence NANOSIL
(VIIth F.P.), projects ENiAC-ERG and ECSEL R2POWER300..
Claudio Fiegna supervises research collaborations with Companies
in the field of integrated circuits and equipments for the
semiconductor industry (Infineon Technologies, Monaco di Baviera,
Germania, Applied Materials, Santa Clara Ca. USA).
