hD sector Mathematics Education, his research interests are about the learning arithmetic K-8 with particular attention to the semiotic aspects involved in this process.


Training
Graduated with honors in Mathematics in 2012 from the University of Florence, he obtained a PhD at the Department of Education and Human Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2017. His doctoral thesis concerns the introduction of Laisant's table as a teaching tool for learning multiplicative arithmetic facts.

In 2015 he obtained the qualification for teaching in lower secondary schools at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Academic career
He has collaborated with various national and international research groups in mathematics education.


From the academic year 2018/19 to 2021/22 he was a researcher at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pavia.


Previously he held courses as lecturer at the University of Bologna.


Teaching activity
In the academic years 2015/16 and 16/17 he was tutor for the Mathematics Education laboratories for the degree course in education sciences at the University of Bologna.


Starting from the academic year 2018/19 and until 2021/22 he held the course on Complements of Mathematics for Teaching at the master's degree course in Natural Sciences of the University of Pavia. In the same years, he taught the course on Specific Teachings of Mathematics for the master's degree course in Mathematics at the same university.


Since the 2022/23 academic year he has been teaching Mathematics Education in the master's degree courses in Mathematics and Primary Education at the University of Bologna.


Membership in scientific societies
Since 2015 he has been a member of the Italian Association of Research in Mathematics Education.


Since 2015 he has been a member of ERME (European Society for Research in Mathematics Education) and between 2017 and 2021 he was elected member of the board of this association.


Since 2019 he has been a member of the Italian Mathematical Union (UMI).

Since 2023 he is co-leading, together with Prof. Bruno D'Amore, the "gruppo di Ricerca e Sperimentazione in Didattica e Divulgazione della Matematica" (group for research and experiments in mathematics education and communication) of the Department of Mathematics  of the University of Bologna.


Other activities
Since several editions he is a member of the International Program Committee of the YESS summer school  organized by the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education.
