Curriculum vitae

In 1996, she graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, and in 2000, she obtained a PhD in Epidemiology and Control of Zoonotic Diseases. In 1997 she was visiting researcher at the Moredun Research Institute, Edimburgh-Scotland, in 1999 and 2005 at the Virus Research Unit, Department of Microbiology, Otago University, Dunedin-New Zealand, in 2003 at the Rega-Instituut, Virologie en chemoterapie Unit, Leuven-Belgium and in 2004 Imperial College of London (training in epidemiology of Infectious Diseases). From 1998-2010 she served as a researcher and from 2010 to 2014 as associate professor and from 2014 as a full professor at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the University of Bologna. From May 2019 she moved to the Medical School, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, where she is Leading the One Health International Study Centre. From 2000, she held several teaching positions: Sustainable Development and One Health, Infectious Diseases, Global Health and zoonotic microbes (Medicine and Surgery), Prophylaxis and Veterinary Police, Virology, practical training in Communicable Diseases - Biosecurity and Prevention of Zoonoses (Veterinary Medicine Curriculum), Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Prophylaxis of Communicable Diseases, Gene Delivery and Biomolecular Methods Applied to Transmissible Diseases (Animal Biotechnology Curriculum). She taught in life-long learning courses on One Health Operationalization in Education and Research. She is currently the Coordinator of the One Health Curriculum of the International PhD Program FRONTIERS (Future of Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges). In 2009, she took part in the WG Technological Districts, Technological Platforms and Infrastructures at the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR). Since 2006 she has collaborated in the activities of the European Technological Platform on Global Animal Health (ETPGAH) From 2015 to 2021 she was appointed Vice Rector for International Relations of the University of Bologna, in 2019 she served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the European Alliance UNAEUROPA. In 2020-2021 she served as Councelor of the Ministry of University and Research. She had been involved in several research projects in collaboration with national and international partners. Author of more than 150 publications in national and international journals and conferences. Since February 2020 she joined the Board of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) and is currently associate Editor of IJID -One Health Journal and member of the Scientific Committee of the One Health One Earth Journal in Italy. From June 2023 member of the WHO One Health Core group on Skin NTDs. The 14th October 2023, she was awarded with the One Health Award as best Italian scientist in the field. She is the former Chair of the UNA- One Health Self Steering Committee of the UNAEUROPA Alliance.
