Curriculum vitae

Alessandra Scagliarini graduated with full remarks in Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and awarded the PhD degree in Epidemiology and control of zoonoses in 2000. She was enrolled in 1998 as a researcher at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Animal Pathology of the Bologna University (UNIBO), certified in compliance with the standard UNI EN ISO 9001:2000. Visiting researcher at Moredun Research Institute, Edimburgh-Scotland, Virus Research Unit Department of Microbiology, Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand, Rega-Instituut, Virologie en chemoterapie Unit, Leuven-Belgium and trainee at the Imperial College of London (2004). In 2009 she joined the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) working group on technological districts, technological platforms and infrastructures and in 2013 she was a member of the MIUR commission on restricted access degrees. From 2006 she has been involved in the activities of the European Technology Platform ETPGAH (European Technological Platform on Global Animal Health) and from 2007 she has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the Italian Technology Platform on Global Animal Health (ITPGAH) for the definition of national and European research strategies in the KBBE field. Since 2008, she has been a member of the Gap Analysis WP3 and leader of the group of experts on Poxviruses within the FP7 European project DISCONTOOLS. She coordinated the European FP7 project (research for the benefit of SMEs) POC4PETS. She is the scientific coordinator of the UNIBO multidisciplinary research group in the Erasmus+ Capacity Building initiative named ELEPHANT (Empowering universities’ Learning and rEsearch caPacities in the oneHealth Approach for the maNagement of animals at the wildlife, livestock and human interface in SouTh Africa) coordinated by the University of Utrecht and involving six South African HEIs and several public and private associate partners.Full Professor of Infectious diseases, prophylaxis and Veterinary policies, practical training Farm biosecurity and zoonotic diseases prevention. Other subjects taught include: Virology (curriculum Veterinary Medicine), Epidemiology, diagnosis and prophylaxis of transmissible diseases and Gene delivery (curriculum Animal biotechnology).In May 2019, she moved to the School of Medicine, Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine – DIMES, to set up an international One Health study center that will carry out innovative education programs and transdisciplinary research.She has been a member of PhD evaluation commissions at the College of Veterinary Medicine (Edimburgh, UK), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universiteit (Gent, Belgium), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Pretoria, South Africa). She is now involved in several research projects related to One Health in collaboration with national and international research centers. From February 2020, member of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID).  From November 2015 to October 2021 she had been appointed as Vice Rector for International Relations of the University of Bologna.
