Curriculum vitae


Professor of Germanic Philology at the University of Bologna since 2016. His research focuses on gothic and Lombard languages and literatures; on the reception and rewriting of the Germanic cultural tradition in modern and contemporary times; on the Germanic cultural aspects within the high medieval texts. He also deals with the relations between Germanic culture within the broader context represented by the medieval European world. It analyzes the Germanic texts with philological, linguistic and comparative methodologies in order to recover the cultural context in which they were produced and / or copied.

 

Education

Graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature in 1989 at the University of Verona, in 1994 he obtained a Ph.D. in Germanic Studies (Germanic Philology) (administrative seat: University of Florence). Academic career Since 1995 he has been a researcher in Germanic Philology at the University of Padua, remaining in service until 1999; in that year he moved to the University of Ferrara becoming, in 2005, associate professor of Germanic Philology. In 2008 he moved to the University of Bologna where he became full professor of Germanic Philology in 2016.

 

Teaching activity

Since 1995 he has been continuously teaching as a holder of various seminars and courses for Degree Courses at first four-year, then three-year and master's degrees, both in Germanic Philology and Nordic Literature. He is currently a professor of Germanic Philology and Nordic Literature for degree courses in Foreign Languages and Literatures (BA), Lettere (BA), and in Modern, Comparative and Postcolonial Literatures (MA) of the University of Bologna.

 

Scientific activity

He participated in numerous national and international research programs including PRIN 2002 (2002108943_002): Rewriting and intertextuality: metamorphosis, interference and reinterpretations of the medieval text; PRIN 2006 (2006105904_005): Composition, transmission and instability of the medieval Germanic text: new criteria and edition models. He was coordinator, for the University of Ferrara, of the European Thematic Network ACUME2 Interfacing Science & Literature, Subproject 3, Scientific Myth-making, Traveling the World. Scientific Discoveries and Narrative Discourses, Travel Literature (2006-2008). He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the international project Building Europe. Columban and its legacy (2012-2015).

 

Institutional activities and academic assignments

From November 2018 to April 2021 was Vice-Director of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures (LILEC)

Since 2018 to April 2021 was delegated to the management of the DIVE-IN Departmental Project of Excellence in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures (LILEC).

Since 2018 he is a member of the Board of the Department LILEC and member of the Research Commission of the Department (LILEC).

From April 9th 2015 to 2020: President of the Scientific Committee of the Library of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures (LILEC)

From 19.03.2013 to 15.02.2019: member of the University Quality Presidium of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.

From 23.01.2013 to October 2018: member of the Joint Education Commission of the Bologna Office of the School of Languages and Literature, Translation and Interpretation

From May 2015 to May 2018: Deputy Director and Member of the Board of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures (LILEC).

From November 1st 2007 to October 31st 2008: President of the permanent work table of the Faculty for the teaching planning of the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Ferrara.

From 1 November 2007 to 31 October 2008: member of the University Commission for the electronic verbalization of the University of Ferrara exams.

 

Membership of scientific and editorial committees

He directs the series Texts of the Germanic Middle Ages at the Meltemi publishing house.

He is a member of the scientific committee of the series Medievalismi of Edizioni dell'Orso.

He is member of the scientific committee of the series Borealia of Pisa University Press.

Since 2014 he has been a member of the editorial board of the international magazine "Ri.L.Un.E.".

He was coordinator of the scientific committee of the first issue of the journal «Philology Germanic / Germanic Philology» (2009); from 2009 to the end of 2014 he was a member of the editorial board of the journal «Filologia Germanica / Germanic Philology».

 

Other activities

From 1.1.2009 to 31.12.2014 he is a member of the Board of the Direction of the Italian Association of Germanic Philology (A.I.F.G.)

Since 1.1.2021 he is Head of the Italian Association of Germanic Philology
