Curriculum vitae

Associate professor since 2022 at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna and director since 2023 of the Master's Program in "Storia e cultura dell'alimentazione", Antonella Campanini is currently working specifically on the social history of food between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance and on the history of food heritage. She has conducted and conducts analyses on manuscript and printed recipe books, cross-referencing them with coeval sources, in order to reconstruct through both content and formal aspects the evolution of the society that produced them, with particular regard to the European circulation of practices, ideas, identities.

Education

Graduated in Lettere moderne at the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, she obtained the Diploma di Archivistica, Paleografia e Diplomatica at the Archivio di Stato di Modena and an advanced degree in Food History of Italy and Europe at the University of Parma.

Academic career

After several years of contract teaching at the Universities of Ferrara and Bologna, she became research fellow at the University of Bologna from 2000 to 2006, then a permanent researcher (sector M-STO/01) from 2006 to 2022 at the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Since 2022 she is associate professor at Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.

Teaching activities

Since 1999 she has taught courses and seminars at various Universities and from 2000 to 2020, with continuity, she taught Paleography at the Archivio di Stato di Bologna. Since 2004, with continuity, she has taught courses for the master's degree program in "Storia e cultura dell'alimentazione" at the Faculty of Lettere e Filosofia of the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna and, during the internationalization phase, he alternated courses in Bologna with those held at the Université de Tours. Since 2006, following her appointment as a researcher, she has taught numerous courses at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, including History of Cuisine and Gastronomy, then History of Food from Prehistory to the Middle Ages, for the Bachelor's Degree Course, and History of Food Cultures and Typical Products for the Master's Degree.

Scientific activity

She has participated in numerous research projects, including several PRINs and was head of the University of Gastronomic Sciences Research Unit in the 2009 PRIN project "Cuisine and national identity: the historical foundations of Italian gastronomic heritage." She is a referee for several international journals of historical food studies.

Institutional activities and academic assignments

At the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, she is director of the Master's Program in "Storia e cultura dell'alimentazione."

During her time at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, she has held several institutional positions. She was a member of the Presidio della Qualità di Ateneo for five years, later assuming the presidency in her last year of service. She has served as library director and as the Rector's delegate to CNUDD.

Membership in scientific and editorial committees

Since 2016, she has been a member of the Conseil Scientifique of the Institut Européen d'Histoire et des Cultures de l'Alimentation (IEHCA, Université de Tours) and has served on scientific committees of conferences organized there. She is co-director of the Collection "Tables des Hommes" (Presses universitaires François-Rabelais de Tours), from its foundation to the present. She is co-director of the Collection "L'Europe alimentaire/European Food Issues/Europa alimentaria/L'Europa alimentaria" (Brussels-Bern-Berlin-Frankfurt am Main-New York-Oxford-Wien, P.I.E. Peter Lang), from the foundation to the present.

Awards and honors

"Naborre Campanini" study prize awarded by the Deputazione di Storia Patria per le Antiche Province Modenesi - Section of Reggio Emilia, for writing a study entitled Tra il Crostolo e la Modolena.
