Short Bio

Massimiliano Trentin works on the International History of Western Asia and North Africa with a special focus on the interplay between diplomacy, economics and development. His monographs, Engineers of Modern Development: East German Experts in Ba’thist Syria, 1965-1972, La Guerra fredda tedesca in Siria. Diplomazia, politica ed economia, 1963-1970 (Cleup 2010 and 2015) and edited volumes like The Middle East and the Cold War (CSP, 2012), Linee di conflitto. Il mondo arabo in trasformazione (Afriche e Orienti, 2013). He published articles on academic journals (Diplomatic History, Cold War History, Foro Internacional, Phoenix, Afriche e Orienti, Middle Eastern Studies, Contemporary European History) and several volume essays (IB Tauris, Lynne Rienner, Peter Lang, Cahiers Irice, Bruno Mondadori, Marsilio, Franco Angeli, il Mulino). More recently, his research has focused on the international history of the “debt crisis” of the 1980s in the region as Principal Investigator of the state-funded research project "The Making of the Washington Consensus. Office Hours take place at Office n. 11, Department of Political and Social Sciences, Strada Maggiore, 45, 40125, Bologna, Italy 

Office Hours will take place ONLINE, through the app. Microsoft Teams, on Tuesday, 11:30-12:30

Office Hours on Tuesday 26h of March are postponed to 15-16 hrs.

From 11 to 11:30, please send a text message to the Professor by Teams and he will reply and indicate the priority order. Office hours end strictly at 12:30.

GRADUATING STUDENTS

During the preparation of their Final Dissertation, BA and MA students can attend Office Hours in physical presence, always on Monday, 11:30-12:30 hrs, in Office n. 11, Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche e Sociali, Palazzo Hercolani, Strada Maggiore 45, Bologna.

FINAL DISSERTATION

Students must prepare a submit by email a written proposal (first draft), which should include:

1. Title

2. Abstract (Max 300 words), including: research object; relevance and originality of the research object within the scientific debate; methodology (sources and analytical approach) 

3. Table of Contents (chapters and sub-divisions)

4. Bibliography: for MA Dissertations, it should include at least 10 books (monographs, edited works) dealing with the research object.

Usually, MA Dissertations exceed 100/120 pages, everything included.
