1991- 1992- ENICHEM research-fellow at the Dept of Food Sciences & Microbial Technology, University of Florence, Italy. Research project: “Isolation and characterization of crop plants associated nitrogen fixing bacteria and plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria”.
March 1993-March 1995- European Community fellow at the Dept of Microbiology, Cork University College, Cork Ireland (Supervisor: Prof. F. O'Gara), Research line: “Development of a transposable lacZY cassette and evaluation of its use as an environmentally friendly marker gene in Pseudomonas strains important for the biocontrol of crop diseases”.

Research interests
Molecular microbial ecology, soil microbiology, microbial bioremediation of metal and organic toxic contaminated soil, Plant-growth-promoting-rhizobacteria, development of molecular tools to monitor and characterize aerobic soil bacterial communities. Physiological and molecular mechanisms of bacterial degradation of organic pollutants. Mechanisms of bacterial resistance and detoxification of metalloids.
