Operational excellence
The research project aims to develop a model of operational excellence for the digital environment of a scientific library within a research institution. Academic libraries face complex challenges: growing demand for digital services, high costs, limited economic resources and rapid technological change. In addition, the role of librarians is changing, with the emergence of open access, the need for data preservation and the urgency of information literacy in a context increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence.
The study follows a research-action approach, aimed at exploring and intervening directly in reality. The goal is to adapt industrial models of excellence such as Lean, Agile, Shingo Model, EFQM and Toyota Way to the library context. The project involves the design of an operational model, the testing of tools and techniques in a real library and the evaluation of the results obtained.
The project aims to fill a gap in research by proposing a tailor-made model of operational excellence that not only improves performance but also addresses the human and cultural dimensions of academic librarianship in an evolving digital landscape.
