Silvia Renzetti (born in Lanciano, 1979) is currently Associate Professor of Criminal Procedure.
She graduated with honours in 2003 from the University of Bologna, defending a thesis entitled Serious Indications of Guilt in the Evolution of Safeguards for Personal Liberty. In 2008, she obtained a PhD in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure from the University of Bologna with a dissertation on precautionary disqualification measures applicable to legal entities under Legislative Decree No. 231/2001, under the supervision of Professor Giulio Illuminati.
From 2009 until her appointment as Senior Assistant Professor (RTD-B) in June 2019, she held several postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Bologna. In June 2022, she was appointed Associate Professor of Criminal Procedure.
In August 2018, she obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) for appointment as Associate Professor in the relevant academic field.
During the academic years 2006/2007 and 2007/2008, she served as Tutor in Criminal Procedure at the "E. Redenti" School of Specialisation for the Legal Professions, where she has continued to lecture in subsequent years.
At the Department of Legal Studies, University of Bologna, she teaches the course Advanced Criminal Procedure, focusing on extra codicem proceedings, including criminal proceedings against legal entities and juvenile criminal proceedings. She also co-teaches the integrated course Law of Security and Prevention and delivers lectures within the Criminal Procedure course (P–Z section). At the Ravenna Campus, she teaches the seminar course Elements of Criminal Procedure as part of the G.I.P.A. (Corporate and Public Administration Legal Adviser) degree programme.
She is a member of the teaching staff of the Master's Programme in Criminal Law of Business and the Economy at the University of Bologna, where she regularly lectures on criminal proceedings involving legal entities.
She has participated in several PRIN (Projects of National Interest) research projects.
Her principal research interests include the procedural aspects of corporate criminal liability under Legislative Decree No. 231/2001, interception of communications, scientific and technical methods of evidence gathering, post-conviction judicial proceedings, and procedural filtering mechanisms.
She is the author of numerous publications on corporate liability arising from criminal offences under Legislative Decree No. 231/2001, as well as on a wide range of other topics in criminal procedure.
She was admitted to the Italian Bar in September 2006.
Alongside her academic research, she has developed extensive professional experience, serving as Chair and member of Supervisory Bodies (Organismi di Vigilanza) established pursuant to Article 6 of Legislative Decree No. 231/2001 for numerous companies. She has also been engaged for many years in drafting and updating Organisational, Management and Control Models (Model 231) for both private and public entities.
