The project (Analysis of the Drivers-Road Interaction by Innovative Methods for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles with ADAS) is a collaborative research initiative led by the University of Bologna in partnership with Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali S.p.A.. The project focuses on analyzing driver–vehicle–infrastructure interactions to support the transition from conventional roads to Smart Road Type 1, in line with national guidelines. Using real-world traffic data, sensor networks, and floating car data (FCD), the project aims to develop models that improve safety, traffic flow, and infrastructure adaptability in mixed traffic scenarios involving both human-driven and autonomous vehicles. The cooperation with Milano Serravalle facilitates direct application and validation of the research on active motorway segments, making the project a key contributor to Italy’s smart mobility and connected transport infrastructure strategy.
