Education and academic experience

After a master's degree in Law at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Serena Vantin achieved a PhD in Political Sciences at the University of Pisa.

From 2016 to 2021, she directed the scientific and organizational secretary of CRID – Interdepartmental Research Centre on Discrimination and vulnerabilities at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (www.crid.unimore.it).

From 2016 to 2018, she was Visiting Fellow at the Queen Mary University of London (2016-2017), the Cambridge University Library (2017) and the University “Carlos III” of Madrid (2018).

From 2019 to 2021, she was Research Fellow (assegnista di ricerca) in Philosophy of Law at the Law Department of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

In January 2020, she achieved the national scientific qualification as Associate Professor (ASN) in Philosophy of Law.

Since December 2021, she has been Senior Researcher at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Bologna.

She carried out teaching activities and additional teaching activities at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the University of Milan, the University of Pisa (Jean Monnet Module ELAN), Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (curso de verano).

She participated in many scientific Conferences and Seminars in Italy and abroad (e.g., at the Sarah Lawrence College in New York, at the King's College of London, at the Instituto de Derechos Humanos “Bartolomé de Las Casas” at the University Carlos III in Madrid, at the XXIX IVR World Congress in Lucerne, at the University Externado de Colombia in Bogotà, at the 116th Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association in San Francisco, at the University of Siville, at the University of Trujillo, at the University of São Paulo).

Scientific activities (selection)

She participated in different national and international research projects, such as:

- Project Horizon 2020 EQUAL-IST: “Gender Equality Plans for Information Sciences and Technology Research Institutions” (2016-2019);

- Project FAMI “ReAcT ER Rete Antidiscriminazione Territoriale Emilia-Romagna” (2017);

- Project Erasmus+ 2015 “Abused No More. Safeguarding Youth and Empowering Professionals” (2017);

- Project Erasmus+ 2015 “Youth Empowerment and Innovation Project” (2017);

- FAR Project – Fondo Ateneo per la Ricerca Unimore 2017 “Il futuro dei veicoli a guida autonoma: soluzioni tecnologiche e profili etico-normativi per garantire resilienza a errori umani e attacchi cyber” (2017-2018).

- Project PRIN 2015 “Soggetto di diritto e vulnerabilità: modelli istituzionali e concetti giuridici in trasformazione” (2018-2020);

- Jean Monnet Module “ELAN - European Law and Gender” (2019-2022).

Since 2015, she has participated in many “third mission” projects to promote gender equality, legal culture and active citizenship.

Since 2016, she has been member of the Scientific Board of the Archivio storico-giuridico “Anselmo Cassani”, created by CRID in collaboration with the Law Library of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

From 2016 to 2021, she participated in the activities coordinated by Prof. Gianfrancesco Zanetti (Univ. of Modena and Reggio Emilia), Editor of the Section “History of Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy” for the “Encyclopedia of the Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy IVR (Internationale Vereinigung für Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie)”.

From 2016 to 2021, she coordinated the permanent Lab of Legal Translation at CRID.

From 2017 to 2021, she coordinated the Officina Informatica “Diritto, Etica, Tecnologie” at CRID.

Since 2019, she has been member of the Lab “Salute e Nuove Tecnologie” at CRID.

Since 2022, she has been member of the Scientific Board of the Center “Knowledge and Cognition” at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Bologna.

Since 2022, she has been member of the Interuniversity Group "Runipace".

Since 2023, she has been member of the Scientific Board of the Center "CRIVISPE - Centro di ricerca filosofica per lo studio della violenza sociale, politica, economica" at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Bologna.

Since 2015, member of SIFD - Italian Society for the Philosophy of Law and of the "Gruppo di lavoro interuniversitario sulla Soggettività Politica delle Donne".

In 2017-2023, member of the Centro Internazionale di Studi e Documentazione per la Cultura Giovanile di Trieste. In 2022-2023, she was member of its Board of Directors.

In 2019-2020, member of the International Association for Women Philosophy and the Women’s History Network.

In 2020-2021, member of the American Political Science Association and its Section “Women and Politics”.

She achieved different study awards and research acknowledgments (e.g., the award for the best PhD dissertation in area 6 - “Legal, Economical and Statistical Sciences, Political and Social Sciences”, issued by the University of Pisa, and the certificate of national and international scientific merit, issued by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia).
