Samuele Luca Gould was born in Canterbury, UK on the 22nd Feburary 1995.

He completed a Mechanical Engineering with Biomechanics Masters degree (an integrated masters, a degree in the English system where the bachelors and masters are done in a single course) in 2019 at the University of Sheffield. His thesis was a comparative analysis of generic and personalised finite element models of child femurs. He was awarded a final grade of a 1st (equivalent to 110/110 in the Italian system).

As part of his degree in 2017-2018 he did an internship (year in industry) for a year at CERN. He performed thermal and structural finite element analysis to improve the design of particle absorbers.

In 2017 he did a 3-month research placement at the Insigneo Institute at the University of Sheffield developing a simplified finite element model of human skin. With this he simulated the interaction between human skin and a prosthetic socket.

Currently, Samuele Luca Gould is a PhD student of the 35th cycle in the health and technology program at the university of bologna, under the supervision of Prof. Luca Cristofolini and Prof. Marco Viceconti. His PhD project focuses on the creation of musculoskeletal (multibody) spine models and simulating ex vivo spine experiments and surgical corrections of scoliosis to aid surgical planning.
