Short Bio

I am a biochemist and Associate Professor at the University of Bologna, where I lead research on mitochondrial bioenergetics and cellular metabolism. My work focuses on the molecular regulation of mitochondrial F1FO-ATPase, particularly its catalytic switching between ATP synthesis and hydrolysis, its modulation by Ca2+ and redox-dependent post-translational modifications, and its involvement in mitochondrial permeability transition. I am also interested in the organization of oxidative phosphorylation complexes, metabolic plasticity, and the development of pharmacological or natural-compound-based strategies to counteract mitochondrial dysfunction. My research connects fundamental enzymology and membrane bioenergetics with cardiovascular, inflammatory, metabolic, and inherited mitochondrial diseases Go to the Curriculum vitae
