Short Bio

Rossella Ghigi is an associate professor in Sociology at the Department of Education "G. M. Bertin", University of Bologna. She graduated in Political Sciences (University of Milan) and she obtained a DEA in History and Civilisation (École des hautes études en sciences sociales, EHESS, Paris). She received her PhD in Sociology at the University of Trento. She is member of the teaching board of the PhD programme in Sociology and Methodology of the Social Research at the University of Milan, which is open to international students.

She teaches in 2nd and 3rd cycle courses. She published in national and international journals and collective volumes. She is the Author of three monographic works. She currently conducts research on socialisation to gender roles and its principal implications in terms of training, discrimination, stereotypes and inequalities. She is an experienced researcher on body modification practices such as cosmetic surgery and body art; feminist theory; gender inequalities and access to reproductive rights.

Office hours

The teacher is available for unscheduled Teams meetings every Thursday from 11 am to 12 pm to discuss teaching, theses, and internships. In-person meetings are also possible on the same day from 12 pm to 1 pm.The techer is available also every Monday from 7 to 7.30 PM on Teams (just audio calls, not video calls).

Theses should be requested at least six months before the submission deadline.

It is recommended to provide specific details on the proposed topic, and it is even better if you have already done some reading on the subject.
