WORK EXPERIENCE

January 2025 - ongoing. Research Fellow (University of Bologna, Italy). 

  • Development of hybrid systems combining Machine Learning (ML) and physics-based models for storm surge and waves. INTERREG PROJECT “Adriatic coastal areas science-based solutions for climate adaptation” (Subsidy Contract/Grant Agreement n. ITHR0200333) with a duration of 30 months within the INTERREG VI A ITALY CROATIA Programme.
  • Collaboration on scientific publications and conference presentations.

March 2022 - December 2024. Ph.D. candidate in Future Earth, Climate Change, and Societal Challenges (University of Bologna, Italy).

  • Storm surge downscaling using ML techniques trained on numerical simulations and observations.
  • Ran SHYFEM-MPI ocean circulation models for long-term sea-level downscaling in the Adriatic (Ref.: https://doi.org/10.5194/os-20-1513-2024).


December 2020 - December 2021. Professional in charge of the Coastal Processes Laboratory (University of Valparaiso, Chile).

  • Oversaw physical and numerical modeling projects including overtopping studies with IH2VOF (Ref.: http://dx.doi.org/10.21703/0718-281320233301). 
  • Contributed to peer-reviewed research on wave dynamics and coastal hazards (Ref.: https://doi.org/10.3390/geosciences12030135).
  • Coordinator of scientific and academic activities in the laboratory.
  • Maintence and verification of the correct operation of the equipment.


April 2017 - July 2019. Project engineer (Skyring Marine, Chile).

  • Field measurements of hydrographic, meteo-oceanographic and topographic conditions along the coast in Chile.
  • Processing of measured data.
  • Numerical wave studies applying the SWAN (Sea WAves Nearshore) model.
  • Support in underwater inspections with Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV)
  • Minor ship skipper.


March 2016 - December 2017. Trainee engineer (University of Valparaiso, Chile).

  • Numerical modeling with SWAN model for wave energy assessment on Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe Island.
  • Analysis of extreme wave conditions in Chile, applying SWAN model and records of historical damage by storms (Ref.: https://doi.org/10.3856/vol45-issue4-fulltext-1).
