Paolo Macchioni is a full-time researcher in animal nutrition
and feeding of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of
Bologna (UNIBO), employed at the Department of Food Protection and
Improvement (DIPROVAL).
Born in 1959 in Reggio Emilia (Italy), obtains Science High
School-leaving Certificate in 1978. In 1983 he graduates in Animal
Production Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture (UNIBO),
defending the experimental thesis "Selenium and other trace mineral
in lucerne". Then ends to fulfill his military duties. In 1983/84
and 84/85 Academic years (AA) carries out research at the Institute
of animal husbandry (IAZ) at UNIBO, with a grant of CRPA (Animal
Production Research Center). In 1984-85 he also teaches in the
secondary school. In 1985-1988 AA he follows the doctoral course
leading to the PhD in Animal sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine at the University of Milan and, in 1989, becomes Doctor of
Philosophy in Animal Science, defending the thesis "The effect of
the level of concentrate and type of forage on feed intake and on
milk production and composition". As PhD visiting student spends 8
months at the then Animal and Grassland Research Institute,
in Berkshire (UK).
In 1988-89 and 1989-90, researches at IAZ with a C.R.P.A.
grant.
In 1991 obtains a temporary position as researcher at the
Faculty of Agriculture of UNIBO, and a permanent one in 1994.
He taught in training courses for business operator in the
agricultural field, organized by professional bodies and
institutions.
He has been a member of the examining commissions of
various teaching courses, mostly of the animal husbandry
group of disciplines, further he has led several field and lab
exercises.
He taught Nutrition physiology and rationing (AA 1996/7, 97/8,
98/9), Feed manufacturing technology (AA 2001/2, 02/3, 03/4),
Dietetics and milk quality (since AA 2003/04).
Elected member in the Faculty Council and in the Board of Diproval.
Member of the councils of DIPROVAL and of the degree course in
Science and technology of animal production. Secretary and then
President (2000-2002) of the committee on the practical training
application of Science and Technology of Animal Production. He has
been a member of the Board for the PhD in Animal science.
He is ordinary member of Italian scientific societies (ASPA;
SISVet.). He presented contributions, participated in the work and
was a member of organizing committees of national and
international scientific symposia.
He has worked in research projects funded by Regione
Emilia-Romagna, CNR:, MIUR (formerly 40 and 60%), EU. He
co-authorised over 60 works, mostly experimental.
