Paolo Gaibazzi is since late 2022 Researcher (Rtdb) of Anthropology at the Department of Educational Sciences 'Giovanni Maria Bertin' of the University of Bologna. At Bologna, he is also a faculty member of the doctoral programme in Global Histories, Cultures and Politics. He has previously held academic positions in Italy, Latvia and Germany, where he still directs the 'AfroEuropean Frontiers' project at the University of Bayreuth. He has conducted ethnographic research in The Gambia and Senegal, Angola, Italy and Tunisia, specialising in migration and (externalized) migration governance, the legacy of slavery in Africa and the African diaspora, and the meaning of uncertainty and potential in in/formal economies.
