Paolo Gaibazzi has been trained in anthropology at the University of Kent (BA) and Oxford (MSc), and received his PhD in Anthropology of Contemporaneity from the University of Milan-Bicocca. Before joining the University of Bologna in late 2022, he held academic positions in Italy, Latvia and Germany, where he taught in several degree programmes in social anthropology and in african studies. He has also been Deputy Coordinator of the Research Group 'Progress' at ZMO-Leibniz Zentrum Moderner Orient (2015-19), and Principal Investigator of the Heisenberg project 'AfroEuropean Frontiers' at the University of Bayreuth (2020-).
