ONGOING PROJECTS

Effort and Outcome in L2 Japanese Pronunciation
A study of long-term explicit practice, motivation, and L2 speech development

This project explores how dedicated practice and motivation over several years influence learners’ Japanese pronunciation and broader L2 speech skills.

L2 Emotional Prosody as a Mirror of Cultural Adaptation
A study of emotional expression in Italian learners of Japanese

This project investigates how Italian learners of Japanese express emotions through prosody, an especially interesting case given the striking differences in emotional dynamics between the two languages. Quantitative evidence shows that advanced speakers use hybrid patterns shaped by both first‑language influence and cultural adaptation.
