1. A linguistic and cultural analysis of the literary text. This
is both a quantitative and qualitative analysis. Methodologies used
include Corpus Linguistics and Systemic Functional analysis, in
particular the analysis of Transitivity. This approach to the
literary text is meant to investigate language in its cultural
context of creation.
2. 3. l language and the relationship between image and
language in an interdisciplinary perspective. This includes and
compares a semiotic approach (Pierce), a post-structuralist one
(Barthes), multimodality (G. Kress e T. Van Leeuwen) and
cultural (J. Hillis Miller e W.J.T. Mitchell). This hybrid
methodology has been applied to a variety of analyses: from book
illustrations to photographs dating from the end of the Nineteenth
Century to the post-war period
