Research

1. Stylistic analysis of literary texts from a cultural and linguistics point of view

2. Visual language  from an interdisciplinary viewpoint

3. Illustrations in literature: words and image

4. The language of tourism

1. A linguistic and cultural analysis of the literary text. This is both a quantitative and qualitative analysis. Methodologies used include Corpus Linguistics and Systemic Functional analysis, in particular the analysis of Transitivity. This approach to the literary text is meant to investigate language in its cultural context of creation.

2. Visual language and the relationship between image and language in an interdisciplinary perspective. This includes and compares a semiotic approach (Pierce), a post-structuralist one  (Barthes), multimodality (G. Kress e T. Van Leeuwen) and cultural  (J. Hillis Miller e W.J.T. Mitchell). This hybrid methodology has been applied to a variety of analyses: from book illustrations to photographs dating from the end of the Nineteenth Century to the post-war period

4. Political language and race
