Monica Turci gets her first class Bachelor Degree at the Faculty
of Modern Languages of the University of Bologna in 1991. During
her undergraduate years she gets an Erasmus bursary to spend a year
as an exchange student at the University of Kent in Canterbury.
There, she attends courses in English. In 1991 she gets a
Master of Arts in English at the same University. In 1998 she
gets the title of Doctor of Philosophy with a dissertation entitled
Readings in the Works of Michael Ondaatje under the
supervision of Prof. Lyn Innes and Prof. Stephen Bann (C. B. E. and
Chair of Cultural Studies). During her PhD she teaches courses on
modern English novel and poetry and she is language assistant in
the Italian Department. From 1998 to 1999, she teaches at the
Faculty of Conservazione dei Beni Culturali (Università di Bologna,
Sede di Ravenna). In 1999 she holds a post doctoral fellowship with
a project on the role of photographic images in contemporary
autobiographies and biographies in English. From 2000 to 2001 she
teaches English language and literature at the University of
Ferrara. In 2001 she is visiting professor at Monash
University (Melbourne AU) where she teaches seminars on the
role of family photographs in contemporary autobiographies. From
2002 to 2006, she teaches English language and linguistics at the
Faculty of languages - University of Bologna. In 2006 she becomes
lecturer in English language and linguistics at the Faculty of
languages - University of Bologna. In 2008 she gets the Marco
Polo scholarship for young scholars and stays three months in
the United Kindgom to do research on illustrations and adaptations
in Rudyard Kipling's work. Since 2010 she is Senior Lecturer at the
dept. of modern languages - University of Bologna. She teaches
courses on systemic functional grammar, stylistics and English
for specific purposes for Bachelor and Master courses. She is
member of the European Network LACE: Literature And Change in
Europe.
She is coordinator of two Erasmus exchanges: with the
University of Reading (UK) and with the Katholieke
Universiteit (Leuven – Belgium).
From 2012 to 2015 she has been a member of the Senate of the
University of Bologna. Since 2012 she has been coordinator for
teaching and learning activities at the University Language
Center (Sede di Bologna) .
