Matteo Traversari, born in Lugo (RA), Italy, on May 1, 1996.

Dr. Matteo Traversari is a PhD candidate in Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences (DIBINEM), XLI cycle, at the University of Bologna and a resident physician in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the same institution. He is currently carrying out clinical and research activities at the First Orthopaedic and Traumatology Clinic of the IRCCS - Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna.

He obtained his Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery with honors in 2021 from the University of Bologna, discussing an experimental thesis in Orthopaedics and Traumatology entitled:
“The Prognostic Value of Serum Inflammatory Biomarkers in Pediatric Ewing’s Sarcoma.”

His main clinical interests focus on spinal deformities in children and adolescents (congenital kyphosis and scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, Scheuermann’s disease), as well as adult spinal disorders (adult scoliosis, degenerative spine conditions, disc herniation, and discopathies).
His primary research interests involve the surgical correction of spinal deformities in adolescents, sagittal spinal alignment in children and adolescents, and the biomechanics of the lumbosacral junction.

He is the author or co-author of more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals and has authored or co-authored numerous abstracts presented at both national and international conferences, in the form of oral presentations and posters.

  • 39 abstracts accepted at scientific conferences as oral presentations or posters.

He has also contributed to the production of scientific videos for the First Orthopaedic and Traumatology Clinic, including two videos awarded by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in 2023 and 2024 as best video contributions in the field of spinal surgery.

He is affiliated with the following scientific societies:

He also serves as a peer reviewer for several international scientific journals (Musculoskeletal Surgery, European Spine Journal, BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research)
