Besides his abilities of cultural promotion acquired through the years, Matteo Casari has also carried out research in the field of Entertainment Management and Economy. In particular, he focused his studies on Cultural Marketing and Project Management with the aim of exploiting this knowledge during the stages of design and layout. He is also widely interested in intercultural issues.

His main research topic remains Japan thanks to his teaching collaboration with the course of Oriental Theatre and the academic experience acquired in Bologna University. Among several topics, Noh Theatre represents the focus of his research and writing activity. Other investigations have been carried out about Kabuki and Bunraku theatre, Peking Opera and one of its main artists, Mai Lanfang.

Teaching activity in the field of Entertainment Anthropology (mainly focused on an anthropological approach of African performatory phenomenon) has fostered further research and investigation on Griot and passage rites analyzed from Turner perspective.

Especially in the central-south area and on its main islands, Italian peninsula offers a wide range of folkloristic phenomenon such as carnivals, mysteries and patron saint festivals. Specific studies have been carried out by fieldwork on the Sacred Week of Castelsardo (Sassari), the Sacred Week of Mottola (Taranto) and the griko's community of Salento (Lecce).
