Marco Solaroli is Associate Professor of Sociology of Media and Visual Culture in the Department of the Arts at the University of Bologna.
As a cultural sociologist with an interdisciplinary outlook, his research, writing, and teaching focus on cultural production, innovation, valuation, and consecration in professional and media fields, especially in relation to digital transformation.
His current research projects deal with news photography and global crises; social media images and political power; AI & visual memory; popular music and national identity.
He studied at the University of Bologna, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Milan. He has been Fulbright Research Scholar at New York University, and he is Visiting fellow at the University of Amsterdam.
He is co-Editor-in-Chief of the Italian journal of cultural studies "Studi Culturali" (il Mulino).
