Since 2000, Full Professor of Computer Science at the Alma Mater where he is the Dean of the Information Science program degree and teaches Human Data Science and Internet Architecture.
He is a Member of the Academy of Sciences (2019) and the Institute of Advanced Studies Bologna (2024). He was: Member of the Italian Space Agency's AI, Robotics, and Cybersecurity Working Group (2022-24), Coordinator of the PhD program in Data Science Alma Mater (2017-18), Visiting Scholar at UCLA (2011-15), Visiting Scientist at ICSI Berkeley 1993.
His research is on: Confronting data deluge, Inferential AI, Heritage science data, Medical scientific data, Prescient intelligence.
Since 1990, he has been a prolific author of 250+ publications. His work is highly cited with an h-index within 36-43 and citations from 3,140 to 5,160 (depending on the indexation: Scopus, Researchgate or Scholar).
His studies are notable for 5 best paper awards, an average number of co-authors per work below 2.5, a Microsoft Research Star Award, a W3C Web Challenge Delegates Award. They garnered an international attention: new archaeological discoveries with AI, game intelligence, intelligent driving.
