Since 2000, Full Professor of Computer Science at Alma Mater where he is the Dean of the Information Science program degree and teaches Human Data Science and Internet Architecture.
He is a Member of the Academy of Sciences (2019) and the Institute of Advanced Studies Bologna (2024). He was: Member of the Italian Space Agency's AI, Robotics, and Cybersecurity Working Group (2022-24), Coordinator of the PhD program in Data Science Alma Mater (2017-18), Visiting Scholar at UCLA (2011-15), Visiting Scientist at ICSI Berkeley 1993.
His research: Confronting data deluge, Data thinking, Inferential AI, Prescient intelligence, Medical informatics.
Since 1990, he has been a prolific author of 250+ publications. His work is highly cited with an h-index in the range 35-43 and citations from over 3,110 to over 5,140 (depending on the database: Scopus, Researchgate or Scholar).
His studies are notable for 5 best paper awards, an average number of co-authors per work below 2.5, a Microsoft Research Star Award, a W3C Web Challenge Delegates Award. They also garnered international media attention: game intelligence, intelligent driving and intelligent sensing for archaeology.
