Marco Roccetti (MSc’88–MEng’89), born 1963, is Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bologna since 2000. He received the MSc (5-year degree) in Electronic Engineering and the Professional Engineering Qualification (MEng).
He holds the Chair in Human Data Science and served on the Scientific Board of the Italian Space Agency (2022–24). Former coordinator of the PhD School on Data Science & Computation, he held visiting positions at ICSI UC Berkeley and UCLA, and was elected as a member of the Bologna Academy of Sciences.
With an H-index of 45 (5440+ citations), his career evolved from probability/statistics and communication networks to a definitive bridge between structural engineering and big data. Author of 230+ Scopus-indexed publications (Commun ACM, IEEE Trans, J Big Data, BMJ Open, JACI), he has pioneered methods for statistical analysis for big data reliability. His work on the structural validation of N-size datasets is proving that data integrity is the prerequisite for reliable inference in fields such as medicine and archaeology.
