Marco Roccetti: MSc–MEng (88-89), born 1963, is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bologna since 2000. He received the MSc (5-year degree) in Electronic Engineering and the Professional Engineering Qualification (MEng).
He holds the Chair in Human Data Science, University of Bologna, and served on the Scientific Board of the Italian Space Agency (2022–24). Former coordinator of the PhD School on Data Science & Computation, he held visiting positions at ICSI (UC Berkeley) and UCLA, and was elected member of the Bologna Academy of Sciences.
With an H-index of 45, 5,520+ citations, 330+ publications (including Commun ACM, IEEE Trans, J Big Data, BMJ Open, PLos and JACI), his career has evolved from the statistical-probabilistic modeling of telecommunication networks and systems toward interdisciplinary data science applications.
For several years, his research has focused on the application of engineering and structural methodologies, variance partitioning, and variance-driven data reliability and integrity to complex domains, such as archaeology and medicine (vaccines, oncology, epigenetics).
