The instructor proposes the following thesis topics:

Pedestrian Survey:

  • Legacy data in landscape archaeology (synthesis frameworks and revision of results from past surveys in Romagna and Emilia)
  • Study of the results from ongoing new survey campaigns (Bassa Romandiola, RecLands, Cervia)
  • Experimentation with ontological databases for surveys and excavations (Cervia), in collaboration with DarchLab and the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Remote sensing: 

  • Remote sensing and landscape analysis (Valle del Mantello e Umana, Anita, Sant’Alberto area), in collaboration with the University of Strasbourg
  • Settlement patterns and LIDAR data, Forlì Apennines and Adriatic coast

Geoarchaeology:

  • Micropaleontological studies to define palaeoenvironmental characterizations (foraminifera and ostracods from Cervia, the city of Ravenna, and the wetlands north of Ravenna), in collaboration with the University of Nice
  • Geochemistry applied to the study of sediments in the wetland areas north of Ravenna
  • Analysis of data from coring campaigns

Archaeological Excavation:

  • Study of excavation finds and revision of documented stratigraphic sequences (Zagonara Castle, Cervia Vecchia, Prato della Rosa)
  • Ontological databases and 3D data (3D semanticization)
