Keywords: RAP, Recycled materials for roads infrastructures CCAM, CAM, SmartRoads Road Safety, Grip Performance

The research activities carried out at the DICAM of the University of Bologna are focused on the following themes:

  • Environmental impact of a road surface: the research is based on the effective possibility of replacing completely virgin materials from non-renewable resources with waste/recovery products and using them in the restoration of road pavements after maintenance works to the underlying infrastructure.
  • Survey methodologies and analysis of the functional characteristics of road surfaces: the research concerns the investigation of the use of technologies of close range photogrammetry  (CRP) to analyze the texture characteristics of different types of road pavement.
  • Study of driver-vehicle-road interaction: the research is aimed at the study of road safety in post-accident cases, with particular attention to the performance of the road surface and the consequences on road users. Skid resistance has a fundamental role for the safety and well-being of road users, in fact to a high degree of friction in the tire-pavement contact corresponds the possibility for vehicles to change their traction during the motion.
