Research Activities:

The research activities of L.R. mainly deal with geometric modelling and approximation theory, but also with their interactions with numerical linear algebra and their applications in the fields of computer aided design and image processing.

L.R. is author of 67 scientific publications in international journals. She participated in numerous national and international conferences as invited or plenary speaker. Moreover, she was member of the scientific and organizing committee of several international workshops and conferences, as well as co-organizer of minisymposia and special sessions during national and international conferences. In 2014, together with some Italian colleagues, she launched the conference series SMART (Subdivision, geometric and algebraic Methods, isogeometric Analysis and Refinability in ITaly), that takes place approximatively every 3-to-4 years.

L.R. also industriously participates in the activities of SIAM and Solid Modeling Association (SMA). For the two-year period 2023-2024 she will be vice president of the SIAM activity group on Geometric Design (SIAG-GD), and in the years 2021-2022 she was Program Director of the same group. In 2023 she was Conference Co-Chair of the SIAM Conference on Computational Geometric Design (SIAM-GD23) and Program Co-Chair of the International Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling (SPM23). In 2021 she was also Program Co-Chair of the 15th international conference on Geometric Modeling and Processing (GMP2021).

Since 2008 L.R. has co-supervised 6 PhD theses in Computational Mathematics, 14 Master's theses in Mathematics and 12 Bachelor's theses in Mathematics.

Since the 35th cycle L.R. is a member of the doctoral school in "Computer Science and Mathematics of Computation" at the University of Insubria.

From the 31st to the 34th cycle L.R. was a member of the doctoral school in "Mathematics" of the Universities of Pavia and Milano Bicocca, and INdAM.

During the 29th and 30th cycles L.R. was a member of the doctoral school in "Pure and Applied Mathematics" of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

L.R. spent many long-term invited research visits at European and international Universities / Research Centers: University of Cambridge - UK (3 months), Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut Cambrésis - France (3 visits of 1 month each), INSA Rouen - France (1 month), ICTP Havana - Cuba (2 visits of 1 month each).

Short-term invited research visits were carried out at the following institutions: University of Groningen, Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, EPFL, University of Vienna, University of Cambridge, University of Passau.

Evaluation of Research Activities:

L.R. participated in evaluation committees of foreign research institutes, research projects and doctoral theses at foreign universities:

  • During the 2019-2020 evaluation campaign L.R. was a member of the Commission of Evaluation Experts (CEV) selected by "Haut Conseil de l'evaluation de la recherche et de l'enseignement superieur" (HCERES) for the evaluation of the Research Institute "Laboratoire Jean Kuntzman" of Grenoble.
  • In 2015 L.R. was ANR (French National Research Agency) Reviewer for the Call CE40 - Appel à projet mathématiques, informatique, systèmes et ingénierie de la communication.
  • In 2022 L.R. was a member of the Evaluation Committee of a doctoral thesis at the University of Wroclaw and in 2019 of a doctoral thesis at the EPFL. In 2013 and 2011 she was also a member of the evaluation committee of two doctoral theses at École doctorale Sciences pour l'Ingénieur - Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut Cambrésis.

Since 2018 she has also been member of several promotion and selection committees both in Italy and abroad.

In 2023 she chaired the selection committee for the "Best Paper Award" of the Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling 2023, and participated in the selection committee for the prize in memory of Maria Charina.

In 2021 she chaired the selection committee for the "SIAM Activity Group on Geometric Design (SIAG/GD) Early Career Prize".
