Molecular bases of cleft lip and palate The goal of the project is the identification of genes involved in nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate (CL/P).

In the last years we have been collecting a large sample of CL/P patients that allows us to evaluate the involvement of candidate genes and chromosome regions of interest by parametric and non-parametric genetic approaches. Several contributes have been already published, however, additional efforts are needed to understand genetic bases of CL/P. Additional studies, regarding other craniofacial malformation (Apert, Cruzon, and Nager syndromes), have been performed by our group to elucidate genotype-phenotype relationships and pathogenic mechanisms.
