Teaching

Dissertation topics suggested by the teacher.

Students interested in writing their thesis under my supervision must have already passed the relevant exam and should contact the instructor at least six months before the chosen graduation session.

In most cases, the theses I supervise are empirical (experimental) and therefore involve the collection and analysis of data. Only rarely, and with specific justification, do I supervise purely literature-based theses.

Students who wish to contact me as a supervisor are asked to present a short initial thesis proposal (1–2 pages) including:

  • Provisional title of the thesis

  • Brief description of the topic to be addressed

  • Brief explanation of how the topic relates to the course content

  • Relevant literature already identified

  • Reasons for the student’s specific interest in the topic

  • Other relevant background knowledge, including possible work experience

  • Any other information considered relevant

General notes

Writing a thesis is a moment in which the student demonstrates having achieved the maturity required to work independently. As a supervisor, I commit to reading the thesis and guiding the student’s independent research work.

There is no mandatory thesis structure, but traditionally a thesis is organized as follows:

  1. Introduction, presenting the thesis topic and the methodology used

  2. Literature review, summarizing and critically discussing the literature relevant to the topic

  3. Research objective, defining the research problem under investigation

  4. Methodology, describing the data sources and how they are analyzed

  5. Results, including the analysis and interpretation of the data

  6. Discussion, critically relating the results to the relevant literature

  7. Conclusions

  8. References (APA style)

Indicative stages of the thesis process
  1. Presentation of the proposal and definition of the topic

  2. Development of a preliminary outline

  3. Critical reading of the literature, data collection, and data analysis

  4. Final definition of the outline

  5. Writing of the chapters and revisions based on the supervisor’s feedback

  6. Careful final revision

Additional guidelines
  • Please send thesis chapters in Word format.

  • The stages of writing and revision are organized according to deadlines set by the supervisor. I usually prefer to read several chapters together. Individual chapters should therefore be submitted well in advance of the final deadline.

  • Writing quality is part of the evaluation, since the ability to communicate effectively through written texts is fundamental in professional contexts. Students are strongly encouraged to carefully review and edit their texts before submitting them.
