In memory of Giulio Regeni
Dear students,
Ten years after the disappearance of Giulio Regeni in Cairo on 25 January 2016, I feel it is important to share some resources to invite you to learn about his story.
I would also like to suggest some articles that provide further insight into the legal aspects of the Regeni case:
- Acconciamessa, Lorenzo. "Balancing the Interest in Prosecuting International Crimes against the Fair Trial Guarantees: The Italian Constitutional Court's Judgment in the Regeni Case on the Prosecution of Torture In Absentia", International Criminal Law Review 24, no. 2 (2024): 187-214
- Buscemi, Martina, and Federica Violi. "Atti di tortura e ricorsi interstatali: prospettive nell’ambito della Convenzione ONU contro la tortura, e oltre", Diritti umani e diritto internazionale, no. 3 (2021): 613-655
- Parisi, Piergiuseppe, and Mattia Pinto. "In Pursuit of Greater Accountability for Torture: The Case of Giulio Regeni after Judgment no. 192/2023 of the Italian Constitutional Court," The Italian Yearbook of International Law Online 33, no. 1 (2024): 287-308
Finally, to learn more about Giulio's profile as a doctoral researcher, below you can find one of the studies he was working on while conducting his fieldwork in Cairo:
Vidican Auktor, Georgeta, and Regeni, Giulio. "The Developmental State in the 21st Century: Calling for a New Social Contract", German Development Institute, Discussion Paper No. 5/2017 (2017): 1-32
