Lidia Bonifati is currently a Researcher (fixed-term) and adjunct professor at the Department of Legal Studies of the University of Bologna. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same Department (2025), and at the Baffi Research Centre of Bocconi University (2024-2025). In 2026, she obtained the national scientific qualification as Associate Professor of Comparative Law.
Dr. Bonifati holds a joint Ph.D. in Legal Studies from the University of Bologna and the University of Antwerp (2023). She held visiting positions at the Queen’s University of Belfast (2018), the European University Institute (2021-2022), the EURAC Institute for Comparative Federalism (2022), the University of Oxford (2025), and the University of Neuchâtel (2026).
Her research interests include constitutional design for divided societies, minority rights, asymmetric federalism, legal and religious pluralism, and comparative research methodologies.
In 2025, she published her first monograph Asymmetries, Courts, and Comparative Constitutional Law (Series in Territorial and Cultural Diversity Governance, Brill | Nijhoff).
