RESEARCH ACTIVITY (IN BRIEF)

Key-words: "Green chemistry", "bio-based advanced organic materials”, "drug delivery", "surface functionalization of biomaterials","hydrogels", “hybrid organic-inorganic nanosystems”, “organic and organometallic synthesis”

From 2009 I focused my research interests in the design and synthesis of luminescent organic/organometallic compounds to be employed in organic electronics (OLEDs and LECs), in nanomaterials (polymeric nanoparticles and nanocellulose), as luminescent probes for bioconjugation and in organo- and hydrogels.

Recently, I directed my studies in the development, characterization and application of new red-emitting carbon dots.

My past research interests included:

  • New applications of metal perchlorates as efficient Lewis acid in organic synthesis.
  • Asymmetric organocatalysis.
  • Study and use of the CeCl3·7H2O/NaI system as Lewis acid in organic synthesis.
  • Organocerium reagents in organic synthesis.
  • The reduction of various classes of functionalized ketones for the synthesis of complex stereodefined alcohols.

COORDINATION ACTIVITY:

Supervisor of 4 Ph. D. students in Chemical Sciences, and co-supervisor of 1 Ph. D in Chemical Sciences.

Supervisor of 4 Post-Doc students (assegnista di ricerca).

Supervisor of about 50 Master and Bachelor Thesis and co-supervisor of about 40 Master and Bachelor thesis.

Co-organizer of “CDCO 2015 Congress of Italian Chemical Society, Organic Chemistry Division, 13-17 September 2015, Bologna, Italy”.
