Jacopo Gaspari is Associate Professor in Technology for Architecture at the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna where he teaches Materials and Construction Systems, Technologies for Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Tecnologies.
He is delegate for international activities of Combined Bachelor and Master Degree in Architecture.
He is Partner Responsible and Contact Person for the University of Bologna in the framework of “Latitudes”, a global project and network leaded by the University of Westminster aimed at working on the impacts of climate change on the built environment.
He also collaborates with the RIC Emilia Romagna Region in the Climate Kic framework, participating to Creating Sustainable Cities and to the Lean Professor Course.
He is the UNIBO Coordinator of the Climate-KIC PhD Summer School Bologna 2015 “Design for Adaptation |Resilient urban communities”.
He was Visiting Researcher at University of Westminster, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.
He is a team member of ROCK, Regeneration and Optimization of Cultural heritage in creative and Knowledge cities, a EU funded project in H2020 framework.
He is currently involved in developing research proposal and projects in the framework of H2020, concerning the fields of building and district renewal with specific focus on climate responsive strategies and energy efficiency measures.
During his research activity he cooperated with several universities, research institutions, research centers and international companies including: International Faculty of Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic, Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey, VIII^ University of Paris Saint-Denis, CIB, iiSBE, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, TU Delft, University of Valencia.
Since 2008 he cooperates with the Venice International University VIU for several lectures and seminars, in the course of Sustainable Urban Development and Eco-Building, of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, of Low-carbon Economy organized in partnership with the University of Beijing and other major institutions in China. He gives particular attention to issues concerning energy efficiency, life cycle analysis and technologies for the rehabilitation of buildings.
He graduated in Architecture at the IUAV University of Venice with a degree in Technology of Building rehabilitation (2001). He obtained a Master in structural restoration of historic monuments and historical buildings at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Padua, further deepening the theme of the intervention on the built environment, in particular with regard to consolidation techniques and use of technologies based on metal structure (2002). He obtained his Ph.D. with a thesis in Technology for Architecture regarding the analysis and the development of effective refurbishment options based on assembled structures (2006).
In 2002-2003, is entitled to a Fellowship for the analysis of the structural behavior of historical buildings in relation to interventions for their consolidation at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Padua. From 2003 to 2005 he attended the Ph.D. degree at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ferrara and IUAV University of Venice on the topic of "Quality of product and process: innovative trends lead to the construction of the architectural project" (University of Ferrara - University of Venice IUAV - University of Bologna. Later have associated the University of Bolzano and University Roma Tre). Between 2004 and 2005 he cooperated in several research activities at the IUAV University of Venice regarding the design of systems and technologies based on assembled construction using innovative materials, the study of strategies for building renovation and urban renewal, the study of technologies for the construction of modular units with glass enclosure and metal steel frame to be used in the refurbishment of existing buildings as a university venue. From 2006 to 2008 holds Research Grant at the Faculty of Architecture, IUAV University of Venice. The research, entitled "Sustainability in construction and technological innovation", focuses in particular on the relation between life cycle, energy investment and durability of construction. From 2009 to 2010 holds Research Grant on European funding, the Faculty of Architecture, University IUAV of Venice. The study, titled "Analysis and comparison of the behavior of the massive envelope and assembled stratified envelope with respect to energy demand reduction", focuses on the study of technologies aimed at reaching high levels of energy efficiency. In 2010 he takes part of the research activity carried out on behalf of the IUAV University of Venice on the Global Plan of maintenance and service of the University for the preparation of the Strategic Program of the planned maintenance activity on the IUAV venues. Between 2010 and 2011 he works in the program of research and postgraduate training entitled "The architectural design. Management and control of complex interventions " run at the IUAV University of Venice on the initiative of the association IUAVAlumni.
Since 2008 he is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, IUAV University of Venice, where he teaches Architectural Technology in the lab of integrated design 3 for specialized degree course of Architecture for Sustainability, Technology for Building Rehabilitation in the lab of integrated design 1 for the specialized degree course of Architecture for Conservation, Constructive Elements in integrated laboratory 1 for the degree course in Architecture. From 2004 to 2010 is reviser for several theses discussed at the Faculty of Architecture, IUAV University of Venice.
Since 2009 he is member of the Italian Society of Technology (SITdA). Since 2010 he is member of the PhD college on the topic of "Quality of product and process quality: innovative trends lead to the construction of the architectural project" (University of Ferrara - University of Venice IUAV - University of Bologna. Later have associated the University of Bolzano and University Roma Tre). Since 2011 he is Member of the Scientific Committee of the Green Building Council, Italy. He is member of the scientific committee of several international conferences and he is reviewer for national and international scientific journals.
