Curriculum vitae

Profile

He has been working at the University of Bologna since 2013, carrying out his research in the field of biotechnological valorisation of urban waste and agro-industrial waste/by-products. Research interests are aimed in particular at the production of carboxylic acids (with short and medium chains), their concentration and purification, as well as their use in the production of biopolymers of the polyhydroxyalkanoate type (PHAs). Furthermore, he studies the use of pink bacteria as a tool for biogas purification and the use of PN + Anammox technology to treat wastewater with low C/N ratio. He currently focuses his research on the valorization of pomace or cellulose waste through the production of medium chain organic acids (e.g. hexanoic acid) and their use in the production of polyhydrosexanoate (PHH, an amorphous biopolymer), esters and/or alcohols.

Education

Graduated in Chemical Engineering in 2010 at the National Technological University (UTN-FRD, in Argentina), he obtained the PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2016 at the University of Bologna.

Scientific activity

It currently participates in the European research project "One Earth" (valorization of whey, chicken feathers and waste from fish processing through the production of molecules with high added value and fish feed rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids) and in national projects PRIN "Express" (EXploring fish waste Potential for the integrated generation of RESources) and PRIN "ReFil" (Renewable liquid Fuel of new generation from wastewater sludge: a step towards circular economy).
In the past he has participated in various national and international research programs including: Research project on the valorization of water from olive oil vegetation (Water4Crops 2013), Research project on the valorization of viticulture waste (VALSOVIT 2016 PON-FERS), Research project on the valorization of urban waste (Res Urbis 2017 EU H2020); Research project for the development and promotion of levulinic acid and carboxylic acid platforms through the formulation of new and advanced PHA-based biomaterials (VISION 2017-2023 PRIN)
Visiting PhD-student (with Marco Polo scholarship) at Tisinghua University in Beijing (Prof. George Chen) as part of the doctoral program, from May to September 2015.
