Giusella Finocchiaro is full Professor of Private and Internet Law within the department of Law at the University of Bologna.
She is the founder and the owner of the Finocchiaro legal firm, specialized in Internet law.
She has been the scientific director of the "Executive Master in Security and Privacy" and of the Master in " Information Security" at Alma Graduate School at the University of Bologna and she collaborates also with the University "Luigi Bocconi" of Milan.
She is the Italian correspondent for several projects of the European Commission. Already a member of ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) Permanent Stakeholders Group, of ENISA Working Group "Privacy and Technology" and of the Scientific Committee of the European Privacy Institute.
She is a member of the International project " Accountability Phase V ".
She has been a legal consultant for the Italian government and an advisor for the Russian government, as a member of the Tacis Project on Electronic Commerce in Russia. She was also a member of UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission for International Trade Law) as an expert on the legal aspects of the digital signature.
In 2011 she was the President of the session "Electronic transferable records" of the " Colloquium on Electronic Commerce " of UNCITRAL - United Nations Commission on International Trade - February 14th -15th, 2011 - New York.
She was a former Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the “Cassa depositi e prestiti S.p.A.” in accordance with D.Lgs. (legislative decree) no. 231 of 8th June 2001.
Since 2011 she has represented Italy at the UNCITRAL Working Group on Electronic Commerce.
She is the Chairperson of the UNCITRAL Working Group on Electronic Commerce.
She is a member of the Jury of the Institute for Advertising Self-Regulation (IAP).
She is member of the ACRI (the Italian Bank Foundations Association) Council since 2015.
She is member of Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute.
In 2016, she has been appointed Member of the Board of Statutory Auditors of the “Cassa depositi e prestiti S.p.A.”
She is a member of the Supervisory Board of the “Cassa depositi e prestiti S.p.A.” in accordance with D.Lgs. (legislative decree) no. 231 of 8th June 2001.
She is the President of the Bank Foundation “Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna”.

She is the author of several books and over one hundred articles in the field of electronic commerce, protection personal data, Internet Law, computer contracts, electronic signatures and intellectual property rights.
