Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture (DA) of the University of Bologna, she deals with research in the areas characterizing the scientific disciplinary sector CEAR-08/A Architectural Engineering, and in particular in the history of construction, in performance rehabilitation in the seismic field and in sustainability in construction.

In the context of the history of Modern construction, the research activity is oriented towards the theoretical and applicative aspects of the discipline, according to different and overlapping processes, which are articulated between the knowledge of the dynamics of the building practice, and the performance assessment of the built heritage. In addition to the study of the evolution and diffusion of Modern construction techniques, research activities are also aimed at the analysis of exemplary buildings by construction period and designer, with the aim of grasping the link between the characteristics of modern Italian construction, local technological possibilities and architectural language.

A direct consequence of the cognitive practice described is the interest in the conservation practices of Modern Italian buildings, to protect and enhancethe National built heritage, through tools and operational methods for the evaluation of the current status of the building and possible interventions to achieve a performance imporvement while respecting the original characteristics.

In the field of traditional construction history, research activity is oriented towards the theoretical and applicative aspects of the discipline, starting from the study of historical construction techniques in load-bearing masonry, up to the analysis of isolated and aggregated historical buildings, finally aimed at understanding structural behavior in the seismic field. The study of the evolution and diffusion of traditional construction techniques includes the analysis of the technological characteristics of construction together with investigations aimed at identifying the evolution of the building practice. This line of research aims at identifying the transformative processes of historical buildings, as well as the consequent predisposition to damage under the effect of earthquakes.

In the context of the synergy between interventions to improve the energy performance of structural safety in existing buildings, the research includes collaborative systems in order to create extensions of living spaces, providing better thermal insulation and collaborating overall in the seismic resistance of the entire structure.
