Gian Carlo Grillini graduated with honors
(110/110 cum laude) in Geological Science at the University of
Bologna and soon after he received the award “Ciro Andreatta” for
the best degree thesis.
His research uses mineralogical and petrographic methods applied
to natural and artificial stones to characterise the decay of
geomaterials from historical buildings in order to devise
appropriate conservation and restoration procedures.
He is author/co-author of over 140 publications appeared in
national and international journals and/or presented at national
and international conferences, as is apparent from the list of
published works.
He teaches as an adjunct professor at the School of Mosaic
Restoration (Architectural and Landscape governmental authority of
Ravenna), the Faculty of Architecture (University of Ferrara), the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and
the Degree in Technology for Conservation and Restoration
and (LMCU) in Conservation and restoration of cultural Heritage (University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus).
He supervised over 60 degree theses at the Universities of
Ferrara, Florence and Cesena (Faculty of Architecture), Bologna and
Venice (Faculty of Science) and Bologna Academy of Fine Arts.
He was invited speaker at several seminars andadvanced training
courses on the characterization of natural and artificial stones
(rocks, mortar, plaster, mosaics, tiles and terracotta), clays used
in ceramics and diagnostic tests for the restoration and
conservation of historical and modern buildings.
He is the member n.300 of the professional Geologist Specialist
register of the Regione Emilia Romagna (Italy).
By government decree he has been appointed as Honorary Inspector
of the Archaeological Authority of Emilia Romagna, for the
preservation and protection of cultural and archaeological
heritage.
